By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American landscape painter Sue Christman (born 1951 in Missouri, USA).

Sue Christman grew up in Missouri and knew at an early age that art and nature would always play an important part of her life. Her parents' creativity and innovative thinking nutured her artistic spirit. Her father was an accomplished photographer while her mother was a talented seamstress who also loved gardening and nature. She remembers her mother teaching her the names of plants and trees in their large yard. With five children in the family, art supplies were a scarce commodity. She recalls her father showing her how to use drywall scraps to draw pictures on the sidewalk.

Later, attending college near the Ozark Mountains deepened her love for the natural world. Aside from study of the great masters of the past, she was also drawn to the work of Edward Redfield, Joaquin Sorolla, John Singer Sargent, Franz Kline and Richard Diebenkorn. Currently she follows the work of Len Chmiel, Larry Moore, Kathleen Dunphy and Alexander Kremer. Constantly striving to challenge herself in the creative process, Christman has taken workshops with artists Ken Backhaus, Moore, Joe Paquet and Ray Roberts. She participates in plein air painting events and feels an artist should never stop experimenting and learning how to best communicate through their art.

Sue Christman lives and works in rural Georgia. Living in the environment which she loves to paint, gives her the best opportunity to closely study nature in all its seasons. Her work may be found at her website (see below).

             ARTISTS'S STATEMENT

“I paint because it is my way of sharing the beauty of the natural world with others, my language, whether in the studio or outdoors. Painting outdoors combines all things I love and is when I feel at peace with myself and the world. Honing the skills to communicate this way is a life-long challenge and an exciting one. When someone responds to your work, you know you have achieved your goal and it is such a rewarding experience."
