By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary

American landscape painter Julia Norton Stevens (born 1949 in Florida, USA).

As a Florida Native, Julia Stevens began her passion for painting outdoors at an early age by sketching, drawing, and painting along the banks of the St. Johns River in Northeast Florida. She was encouraged to paint what she saw and soon she developed a consuming addiction to plein aire painting. This has became her life-long passion. Upon graduating from Florida Southern College with a BA in Fine Art, Julia taught art for the Broward County School District.

Julia combines her love of painting the great outdoors with a concern for the conservation and the preservation of the vanishing Florida and Southeastern USA landscapes. Julia intentionally searches for locations that may soon be developed. She visits local preservation areas, undeveloped parks and wildlife preserves. When Julia finds an area, she grabs her palette, sets up her easel, and hurriedly expresses her response to the world that she encounters on canvas.

She creates paintings in the traditional “en plein aire" style of the early American Impressionist. Preferring to paint from life, and working mostly in oils and watercolors, she responds to the play of colors and light in a field, the shifting shadows through trees, or the reflection of sparkling light that bounces off the water. Recently, she went back to an area she had painted, a homestead home in Davie. It had been torn down, the land cleared, and another development started. Julia feels that she is saving a part of Florida that will not been seen in future generations.

Julia has also won numerous awards for her art work, including but not limited to: Best in Show 2014, Broward Art Guild Plein Aire Annual competition; Best in Category in the 2011 International Fine Art Competition; Best of Show with the Broward Art Guild.

She has had several solo exhibitions in local galleries with the Plantation Historical Museum, and the three-person invitational exhibition, held in the Old Davie School Museum.

Julia and is represented by ArtBlend in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

She currently resides with her husband in Plantation, Florida

                            ARTIST'S STATEMENT

“Capturing the way a beam of sunlight caresses whatever it falls upon is everything to me. The light is always what draws me in and is my inspiration. Its brevity, its elusiveness, its capacity to transform,  I am driven to capture that moment of time in my art. And that is why I go outdoors to paint."
