By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American landscape painter Nancy L. Tankersley (born 1949 in Bethesda, Maryland).

Despite a lifetime of moving around the United States as part of a military family, Nancy has always regarded the coastal areas of Maryland and Virginia as home. Her love of the Chesapeake Bay area is evident in many of her landscapes and she enjoys painting en plein air as often as possible.

Nancy studied Fine Art in 1967-69 at Miami University and received a B.A. from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1975. She has attended numerous workshops with various artists including Ken Auster, Carolyn Anderson, Kim English, Quang Ho and Jon Redmond.

Starting her artistic career as a portrait painter, she still enjoys painting occasional portraits. However, in 1997 she began combining her interest in the figure with that of the landscape, resulting in a series of figurative beach paintings that has gained recognition and acceptance in galleries coast to coast. More recently she has have been concentrating on "contemporary life", especially people art work, concentrating on bistro and kitchen scenes. Her figurative work is equally balanced by plein air and studio landscapes where she strives to capture the essence of the scene. The artist can also be found painting still life because she believes that a well-rounded artist should be able to approach any subject with confidence.

Nancy is a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society and the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters, and a juried member the Washington Society of Landscape Painters (www.wslp.org) , the Oil Painters of America, ,and the Salmagundi Club in NYC. In 2004, Tankersley was one of the primary organizers of the first-annual Easton Plein Air Competition and Arts Festival (www.pleinair-easton.com) and served as the Competition Chairperson in 2005 and 2006. She works at the Easton Studio (www.easton-studio.com) where she teaches weekly classes and several weekend workshops a year.

            ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"We can ask no greater joy than to go gently through this place that has been given to us, and make something out of it. Not necessarily to fully understand it, for that might be an impossible task, but to honor it in our own way."
