  Feature Artist Bio

By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American

landscape painter Liz McGee (born 1954 in Connecticut, USA).

Liz McGee earned her college degree in Textile Design from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1975. Her early twenties were spent in New York City as a textile designer. She worked with such wall-covering companies as Waverly and Schumacher & Sons. At this time a book of her original wall-coverings, with coordinated fabrics, was published under the title “Mystic.”

During these same years Liz began to study watercolor painting at Lyme Academy of Art in Old Lyme, Connecticut. This has led to a life-long commitment to the watercolor medium of art. Liz believes watercolor is the best way for her to express the landscapes she sees. When she scans the wonders of creation, she sees watercolors filled with endless glazed nuances. She sees vignettes and the sheer perfection and beauty of them. The interactions of color, shadows and composition...be they delicate flowers in a garden, dazzling lights dancing on the water or breath-taking vistas seen from afar...hold her in their grasp. And then she begins to paint the watercolor in her mind.

The bulk of her professional art has been created in the last ten years. She has been juried into many prestigious shows and won numerous awards. Her work is in galleries in both Connecticut and Rhode Island. She also has a large following as a watercolor teacher.

Liz has successfully marketed her best-selling art reproductions under the brand name, “Views and Vignettes”, a high-end line of giftware.

                          ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My journey as an artist is to remind myself to paint what my soul longs to express. Art, like nature, is not about the straight line. It is the subtleties and transparent qualities of the watercolor paint, letting it do what it naturally does with skilled control, that brings success. The best quality about this medium is its ability to surprise. That is its truest parallel to life. The greatest test is learning how to make something beautiful out of it.”
