ARTIST'S OFFICIAL BIO (see above)
By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by South African
landscape painter Dieter Berner (born 1939 in Namibia, Africa).
Dieter Berner considers himself as a late bloomer as an artist. Born in Namibia, he grew up in South Africa. Although he felt that he lacked artistic talents, he took up art classes in his last school year. He was introduced to pencil drawing, watercolor and oils but immediately got hooked on oils.
While studying at university he continued to take art classes with a great South African master, Otto Klar. When he started his full-time job he slowly disengaged himself from painting. He collected South African art and visited galleries regularly. It was only at the end of his retirement that he decided to resume art classes, which he did for four years. He has been painting full-time since his retirement.
Dieter specializes in landscapes and specifically in South African landscapes, with its wide variety of scenarios, from rainforests to arid desert regions, from high mountains to flat grass lands. He mostly paints from photos as plein air painting options are limited.
He considers his style between naturalism and impressionism. Dieter believes that his paintings should have good contrasts and lively colors, as some of the old South African masters like Pieter Wenning, Hugo Naude and others did.
Dieter's work is exhibited in various galleries in South Africa and his paintings have found homes not only in South Africa but also in the USA, Europe and Asia.
His work can be viewed on Facebook under the name of "Dietrich Berner."
